I know some of us were a tad disappointed at the news that Retro wasn’t making another game in the Metroid Prime-esque vein, instead making another Donkey Kong Country installment, but take heart!  David Wise, the composer for the original Rare Donkey Kong Countries, is signed again to compose the score for DKC’s newest addition: Tropical Freeze.

Wise has accomplished with his original Donkey Kong soundtracks what most (media) composers dream of but very few achieve: his soundscape is so deeply embedded into our notion of what “Donkey Kong” is they are practically inextricable.  Like Williams and Star Wars or Bernard Herrmann and Hitchcock films, “Jungle Groove” (above) and “Aquatic Ambiance” (below) perfectly encapsulate what a Donkey Kong game should sound like, and its always great to get the original back to add to the oeuvre when necessary.

*Edit: I evidently had too much LoL on the mind when I wrote this article; the developer was misidentified as Riot, now changed to Retro.
